چکیده

The relationships among hemoglobin concentration (Hb). red cell 2.3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG), and p50 were studied in 20 chronically hypertransfused patients with thalassemia major. In the nontransfused control group. which included normal individuals as well as patients with sickle cell disease or iron deficiency anemia. the Hb correlated inversely with both 2.3-DPG concentration and p50. as is well established. In contrast. however, prior to transfusion, at the nadir of Hb, patients with thalassemia major had inappropriately low 2.3-DPG concentrations and pSOs. These findings occurred in all patients. regardless of whether they had received packed, leukocyte-poor, or frozen-thawed red cells. The hypothesis that the time of

Physiol. 37(l) : 60-63. 1974 .-Blood stored in acid-citrate-dextrose (ACD) develops increased oxygen affinity secondary to progressive decline of red cell 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (DPG) levels. The ability of stored blood to supply oxygen to tissues was studied in rats exchange-trans...

Red Blood Cells Alloimmunization and Autoimmunization in Multi-transfused Thalassemia Patients in South of Iran

Background: Recurrent blood transfusion is a common treatment in patients with thalassemia. The development of antibodies against red blood cell (RBC) antigens complicates RBC cross-matching, enhances the in vivo destruction of transfused cells, accelerates tissue iron overloading, delays the provision of safe transfusion, and reduces health-related quality of life. Materials and Methods: In t...

PHARMA COKINETICS OF RECOMBINANT ERYTHROPOIETIN AND RED CELL METABOLISM IN HAEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS

The pharmacokinetics of recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEpo) administered intravenously has been investigated in a group of five patients with chronic renal failure who were dialysis-dependent. The half-life of circulating erythropoietin decreased from 7.9±OA hr (mean ±SO) at the beginning of treatment to 6.2±O.6 hr after 6 weeks and 5A±O.9 hr after 4 months of treatment. In spite of t...
